I would hurt somebody for macaroni and cheese right now.  No, I’m not pregnant, but my craving for foods has been a little nutty lately.  Oddly enough, I usually crave carbohydrate laden, comfort food like macaroni & cheese in Winter, not Spring.  I suppose some cravings are just primal (or so I am going to claim when I indulge later).  This next Call speaks to the primal as well.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Saranac Art Projects (Spokane, WA) for Prime, a juried exhibit. The entry fee can be as little as $15 and there is no commission! This show is one I would really like to see all of you get behind. Honestly, this is a great show… Please, make me proud.

I am consistently amused by product names.  It comes from all the years of marketing.  When I saw the first commercial for belVita, I thought, “Really? Those sound awful.”  But, of course, I am now addicted to the Golden Oat variety.  However, I think I have to draw the line at urine-monikered soft drinks.  Funny? Yes.  Appetizing? No.  This next Call’s humor makes it a yummy opportunity.  Take a look…

I’ve never been a coffee drinker Well, I used to submit to occasional peer pressure in social situations.  Wait, that didn’t sound like I was talking about coffee did it?  I probably have not had coffee, or any of its infinite variations, in over 10 years.  Nope, I am really not kidding.  I used to have my morning caffeine via a diet soft drink, but now I often drink the caffeine-free variety…if at all.  I have friends that cannot comprehend how I function without coffee or caffeine.  I dunno.  This next Call celebrates the morning coffee ritual.  Be careful, contents may be hot…

Check out this Call for Entries from Lillstreet Gallery (Chicago, IL) for Best Served Hot:  Ceramics for the Coffee Ritual.  The entry fee is reasonable.  The jurors are great.  And, I’ll bet the coffee at the reception will be fantastic, if you’re into that sort of thing.  Chug a lug…

I like simple foods.  As I get older, I cook and eat fewer and fewer complicated recipes and foods.  I have come to appreciate the individual flavors of foods.  Dinner at my house is frequently a small cut of beef, chicken or fish with two oven roasted veggies on the side.  Simple.  Fewer and fewer sauces.  But, then again, I prefer simplicity in a lot of ways.  I rarely even wear prints unless they are simple geometrics.  This next call makes a geometric impact for a great end look and mission.  Please give this opportunity some serious thought…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Silver Eye Center for Photography (Pittsburgh, PA) for the 8×8 Photo Party This is an excellent way for you to help a great arts organization without having to print or ship your work or pay an entry fee.  This is an excellent idea for photographers trying to add to their artistic resume.  Take a look…

Even my animals have very specific food likes and dislikes.  One of my pups, Pepper, a 7 year old Lab/German Shepard mix loves crunchy veggies.  She will beg for carrots, broccoli stalks and potatoes like she is dying of starvation.  White grapes are the ultimate treat.  However, a chunk of banana will be spit back out at my feet within mere seconds.   I have created a monster of sorts, I suppose.  Animals.  Gotta love the personality.  This next Call wants to see how you capture the personality of the animals around you.  Take a look…

I used to be addicted to “snack size,” pre-portioned foods.  I thought they were the perfect solution to my portioning problem.  However, I learned that the innocent little packages led me to eating multiples.  Plus, the extra packaging and cost don’t sit well either.  So, I’m back to counting cheese puffs and Fritos® again.  Let’s hope the small size of the artwork for the next Call creates a feed frenzy too.  Check it out…

My son loves blueberries, and buying blueberries is a happy indulgence for me to supply for him.  I have been known to buy lots of blueberry-flavored foodstuffs, but I’m also an avid label reader.  I believe people have the right to know the actual identity of what we are eating.  And folks, blueberries are a hot mess in almost any form outside the actual blueberry.  Check out foodidentitytheft.com if you’re interested.  In the meantime, this next show is all about identity.  Check it out…

Art/Identity

Art is an extension of the self, a combination of flesh and soul that is enriched by a variety of experiences, loves, histories, and hopes. Within the criss-crossing of lines, the pooling of paint, the spectacle of performance, the mechanical memory of the photograph, and the interactivity of video, one can catch a momentary glimpse of essential characteristics of personhood. They invite you to submit work of all media that examines identity in all its forms—the personal, the social, the revolutionary, the imaginary.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists residing in the US.

MEDIA: 2D, 3D or Time Media.

Work by Guest Juror Susan Sills!DEADLINE:  May 12, 2013

NOTIFICATION: May 20, 2013

ENTRY FEE: $25 for one entry of up to 3, $40 for 2 entries (total of 6).

JUROR: A resident of Somerville, MA, Geoff Hargadon is a multimedia artist who has shown across the country. His current project, Cash for Your Warhol, has caused a stir all over the world by blurring the lines of fact and fiction, self and society, in an uncertain economic climate.

Susan Sills was born and raised in Chicago and moved to the Boston area in 1973.  After receiving a Masters in Architecture from Harvard, Sills began her career as an architect and designer. In the early 1990’s she returned to painting and combined her innovative spirit with her training and experience.  This led to an endlessly evocative body of multimedia work.  Her artistic vision exists “somewhere between the safe, structured environment of the world around us and the chaos of the textures within us all”.
