LITTLE BITE

Smaller isn’t always the same.  Every member of my household is an avid label reader due to food allergies.  One of the most important lessons we have learned is that miniature and compact versions of foods are not necessarily the same, nutritionally speaking.  I find miniatures of candy bars are often sweeter due to a different ratio of ingredients than the originals.  Sometimes, they add thickeners or starches to help them better hold their more compact shape as well.  Be careful.  This next show is all about the VIRTUES of being compact.  Take a look…

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists residing in the United States

MEDIA:  Open to all media.  Two-dimensional works must be 20” x 20” or less. Three-dimensional works may have one side exceeding 20″ but cannot exceed 70 lbs in weight.

DEADLINE:  February 6, 2015

NOTIFICATION:  February 20, 2014

JUROR:  Brooke Anderson currently serves as the Executive Director of Prospect.3 in New Orleans, an international contemporary art biennial., Deputy Director of Curatorial Planning at LSCMA in Los Angeles, CA, Director and Curator at The Contemporary Center and the Henry Darger Study Center at the American Folk Art Museum in New York; Director of the Diggs Gallery & Assistant Professor of Fine Arts, at Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina.  Anderson has curated exhibitions and lectured extensively around the world.

AWARDS:  1st Place $2,000, 2nd Place $1,500, 3rd Place $1,000

Think good things come in small packages?  How ’bout medium sized?  Or do you always think bigger is better.  Methinks jewelry is best in small packages; my rear is best when medium sized; and, chocolate is best when bigger…but compact?  Hmmm…let me think about that one…art, maybe?

CALL for ENTRIES:
2010 20″x20″x20″
A National Compact Competition and Exhibit

Check out the 20x20x20x National Compact=This is a competitive juried exhibition in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. It is sponsored by the LSU Student Union Art Gallery Advisory Committee. 

Expected attendance is 3,000 visitors.  

The LSU Student Union Art Gallery Advisory Committee, composed of volunteer LSU students, faculty, staff and community members, is responsible for the selection of art exhibits and programs in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery. They are pleased to sponsor this national two- and three-dimensional compact art competition and exhibit for the 15th year.

ELIGIBILITY: This juried exhibition is open to artists residing in the United States. Submissions need to be less than 20″x20″x20″ excluding matting and framing. Work needs to be completed within the last two years. Works previously exhibited in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery are ineligible.

FEES: Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable), which entitles each artist to submit up to 3 entries. Check or money order should be made payable to the LSU Student Union Art Gallery. Entry fees may also be paid bycredit card. Please enter your credit card information on the entry form.

JUROR: Dr. Sara Cochran, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Phoenix Art Museum in Phoenix, AZ and former Assistant Curator at the Los Angeles County Museum.

CASH AWARDS:

First Place (1) $1,800
Second Place (1) $1,200
Third Place (1) $900
Merit Awards (5) $400

envelopes, one with $0.44 for notification and one with $0.44 for return of slides. Include completed entry and notification forms, labeled slides, and your entry fee payment.

For CD submissions: Send one (1) self-addressed, stamped, legal size envelope for your selection notification.

All CDs will be shredded at the end of the exhibit. Payment can be made by credit card, check or money order for $35 made payable to the LSU Student Union Art Gallery.
