I have moved to a house with more cabinets space. This means trouble for my kitchen gadget budget.  Typically, I stick to simple kitchen utensils; even my can opener is manual.  However, I am giving up diet Coke, and I am seriously contemplating a juicer.  Okay, it isn’t exactly a high-tech purchase, but you say potato, I say pa-tah-to.  This next call will require use of slightly more advanced technology that a juicer.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries for the 2012 National Juried Competition featuring Digital Works from the Long Beach Island foundation of the Arts and Sciences (LBIF).  As you may be aware, shows for digital work can be hard to find.  So, don’t miss this opportunity…

ELIGIBILITY: All emerging and established artists residing in the US.

MEDIA:  The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase works created through digital processes, display distinctive characteristics of the digital, and reflect on the language and aesthetics of digital media (such as new forms of image creation and manipulation, connectivity, or participatory and generative qualities). Submissions may include all forms of digital media, such as digital prints and photography, sculpture, video, software art, online and mobile projects etc.

ENTRY FEE: 
$35.00 for up to four submissions.

Fee will be received in U.S funds only, payable by check, money order, or credit card to LBIF. All fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.

JUROR: Christiane Paul is the Director of the Media Studies Graduate Programs and Associate Prof. of Media Studies at The New School, NY, and Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Digital Art by Christiane PaulShe has written extensively on new media arts and lectured internationally on art and technology.

An expanded new edition of her book, Digital Art was published in spring 2008 and her edited anthology, New Media in the White Cube and Beyond – Curatorial Models for Digital Art, was published by UC Press in December 2008.

At the Whitney Museum, she curated the shows “Profiling” (2007) and “Data Dynamics” (2001); the net art selection for the 2002 Whitney Biennial; the online exhibition “CODeDOC” for artport, the Whitney Museum’s online portal to Internet art for which she is responsible; as well as “Follow Through” by Scott Paterson and Jennifer Crowe (2005).

AWARDS:  Best in Show $1000, 2nd Place $500, 3rd Place $200, and Two Honorable Mentions $100 ea.

SALES:  The LBIF takes 33% commission on all sales.
