B*tchfest: A Juried Exhibition

We are not invisible.

An international art festival dedicated to the politic of being a woman.

Specifically the re-emerging &
mature feminist artist.

Because there is no
institutional support for us.

Because we have not lost our edge.

Because there is no place for us to bitch.

Give voice to the vibrant demographic that is being ignored.

We are not invisible.

A note from the Haggus Society: The Haggus Society recognizes that many women will be offended by our use of the word bitch. We feel that in order to change a culture, you must change the language. To that end, we are claiming ownership of Bitch and other terms of empowerment.

Innovation in cooking (and in art) moves slowly.  If you watching cooking shows, you would think that sous vide cooking preparation is a hot new technique.  But the sous vide method has been around since the 1970s.  Digital Art and New Media have not moved quite that extreme of slow, but slow nonetheless.  Shows like the one in this next Call will put New Media in the forefront in no time.  It is a great opportunity…

Check out this Call for Entries for the New Media Festival from LACDA (Los Angeles Center for Digital Art).  The entry fee is reasonable, and I know that new media shows can be hard to find.  This isn’t a show for everyone, but new media shows can be rare finds.  Investigate…

I believe that recognizing ingredients in a gourmet dish should be an Olympic sport.  Try it at home sometime.  Have someone prepare something simple, and then try to figure it out based on taste only (pull the blindfold out of storage).  It is harder than you might think.  Telling one herb or seasoning from the next is complicated if YOU didn’t put it in the dish.  This next Call is for an exhibit that will bear witness to many an Olympic sporting event in London this year.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: 10 Second Film Festival

I am the soup queen.  I accidentally found out during a run of bad weather one winter during which we couldn’t make it to the grocery store that I am really good at making soup.  I had a whole series of artwork happen because I accidentally put myself in a situation where I was trapped at home too.  My point?  Maybe life is just a series of accidents, and with any luck, maybe more of them will be happy than not.  If you’ve accidentally (or puposefully) shot 10 seconds of good film, here’s your chance to put it to good use.

Check out this Call for Entries from The Soap Factory for Ten Second Film Festival.  It is free to enter.  You can email your entry.  And your work could have an audience of thousands.  What do you have to lose?

*Editor’s note:  I have a soft spot for The Soap Factory.  Clearly, they love what they do…hence the overwhelming amount of community and volunteer support they enjoy.  Do we all wish The Soap Factory was in our city or town? Certainly.  But never let geography be your crutch.  The chances are good that there is a free-spirited, albeit struggling, arts organization in your hometown.  Show them a little volunteer support, and the rest could be history.
