I am melon obsessed lately.  Watermelon & canteloupe are around $.50/lb. or less, and I can’t seem to get enough.  I’m having them for on the side of oatmeal at breakfast, with cottage cheese & salads at lunch, and they’ve even become dessert stand-ins.  I’m excited about high value nutrition and low-cost; it doesn’t always work out quite that way.  This next Call is a selling show with a price cap, making it an affordable way for fans to become collectors.  Take a look…

and personal. It is time to expand your collector base in NYC. The people most likely to buy your work in the future are your current
collectors. After all, they have expressed their love of your work with their wallet – the sincerest compliment. To make it easy for
new collectors, all work submitted must be for sale at $499 or less.” –from bwac.org

ELIGIBILITY: Open to U.S. artists 18+

MEDIA: Open to all 2D & 3D work including video (when self-presenting)

ENTRY FEE:  $65 for up to 5, $5 ea. add’l.

DEADLINE:  July 12, 2018 

NOTIFICATION:  August 2, 2018

JUROR:  Brinda Kumar, is an Assistant Curator in the department of Modern & Contemporary Art at The Met. She worked on Nasreen Mohamedi (2016), one of the inaugural exhibitions at The Met Breuer, was part of the team working on the exhibition Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible (2016), and is a co‐curator of the exhibition Like Life: Sculpture, Color, and the Body (2018). She completed her BFA at the College of Art, New Delhi; MA at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; and received her PhD from Cornell University.

AWARDS:  Gold $1000 Purchase Award, Silver $250 & eight $100 Certificates of Recognition.

SALES:  All work submitted must be for sale at $499 or less. One bonus work chosen by the artist will be accepted from artists with work juried into the show.  These smaller works will be priced at $399 or less.  BWAC will retain a 30% commission on all exhibition sales.

JUROR:  Laura Phipps is an Asst. Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She has been at the Whitney since the summer of 2009. She has served as a juror for New American Paintings, on the grant selection committee of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation, as a visiting critic for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace & Smackmellon Studio Program, and as a guest curator at the Kentler Drawing Center, Brooklyn. Prior to the Whitney, Phipps worked in the curatorial department & director’s office of the Modern Art Museum, Fort Worth. She received her MA, Art History at Hunter College, CUNY & BFA, Studio Art & BS, Psychology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.
