My new ace-in-the-whole dish is for last minute parties and desserts is anything topped with chocolate glaze.  3/4 cup of dark chocolate chips melted with 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil.  From cheesecake to strawberries, it works on everything.  Warm, it is like velvet. Cold, it is a beautiful shell.  Here’s hoping everything turns up aces for you with this next Call.  Remember, nothing great happens unless you TRY.  Investigate for yourself…

Check out this ongoing Open Call from the Ace Gallery (Los Angeles & Beverly Hills, CA) for Curatorial Planning.  Calls like this are one of the answers to the question I hear most often, “How do I get a solo show?”.  Take a look…

CHICK-A-PEA

New foods/materials are fascinating.  Well, foods that are new to me would be more accurate.  My newest is flax seed meal.  I use it to make everything from scones to crackers and biscuits.  Then there is the chickpea.  It isn’t new but some of its uses are.  Chickpeas aren’t just for hummus.  I made cookies out of them.  The best cookies ever–no exaggeration.  This next Call will let you use old materials, but the fair is named for the new ones.  This is a HUGE opportunity for someone…

Check out this Call for Entries from the New Material Art Fair for a free Solo Space at the Eva Hotel (Miami, FL).  This is an opportunity that is worth $4500, so don’t take it lightly.  The entry fee for the early deadline is only $30…

It is clementine season.  Every year around this time, clementines start popping up in the grocery store, and every year I muse over the fact that they seem more like summer fruit than winter.  Did you know that in California (where they were grown as early as 1904), a lot of people call them Christmas Oranges?  Who knew.  This next Call also hails from California.  Take a look!

I am a culinary cheapskate, of sorts.  I try to limit the cost of a home-cooked meal’s protein to $2 to $4–total, not per pound.  It comes from years of having no choice; however, I have these budgetary restriction to partially thank for my culinary creativity.  You try having chicken, turkey, eggs or pork 4 days in a row; it will make you creative too.  Now I will still buy a lux bottle of vinegar for $15, but I have priorities, ha. Dragées remind me of Las Vegas.
