CALL for ENTRIES: No Big Heads 2019

Learn more about the No Big Heads Call from the Hugh McPeck Gallery at University of Alaska Anchorage!

hugs & QUICHES

I make the best quiche in the world. Not hyperbole. (The quiche pictured here is not of my making.) You can say what you want, but I will not be dissuaded, ha.  It is NOT, if fact, what I was hoping for as a supper super power, but it is what I got.  My husband has decided that I am allowed to have a big head regarding this one topic; however, I suspect he’s just humoring me for fear his quiche connection will dry up before he learns my secret techniques and/or ingredients.  Bwahahahaha.

This next Call indicates No Big Heads.  Do I still qualify?  Just kidding.  I like this next Call because it ticks off a lot of great mileposts for many of us.  It is an academic show, a resume builder, and it is in Alaska, a state missing on many of our resumes.  The submission size is limited to 12″ or smaller in any direction, so shipping is cheap & easy, AND there are cash prizes.

Check out this Call for Entries from University of Alaska Hugh McPeck Gallery (Anchorage, AK) for 34th Annual No Big Heads Exhibit. $25 entry, 10% commission & cash awards too.  This is open media self-portraiture, so if you’ve got work to offer, investigate this opportunity!

boxy BITES

Making pasta used to be a joy.  I enjoyed hand-cutting linguine and stuffing beautiful little half-moon ravioli. But, my husband’s Celiac’s diagnosis put a crimp in my ravioli revelry.  Luckily GF flour has come a long way.  I am making pie crusts and little stuffed ravioli to my hearts content again.  I have dispensed with the round & half-moon shapes, along with my biscuit cutter, but I find the square has its own appeal.  This next Call appreciates the square form as well.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Las Laguna Gallery (Laguna Beach, CA) for 6×6 – Be There, Be Square, an exhibit inspired by small, square works. $35 entry & 35% commission. Don’t miss this opportunity…

Learn more about the 2017 Tieton 10x10x10 from Tieton Arts and Humanities!small FOODS

Two of the most used utensils in my kitchen are ice cream scoops, and neither gets used for ice cream.  We haven’t make full pans of brownies or cornbread or cake in years.  We use those scoops to portion everything from quiche to bread in muffin tins.  With everyone on the go, we find single-serving sized foods make for fewer excuses for not taking quality food from home.  As a gallerist, I’ve found that small works often take the I-don’t-have-room objection off the table too.  This next Call wants the best of your small work.  This is a great opportunity…

tiny TREATS

Olives & cheese have saved me so many times.  When I’m traveling and haven’t been able to cook (or enjoy my husband’s cooking) for several weeks, an olive bar is the answer.  Whole foods with decadent amounts of fat that are great cold.  Tiny treats.  This next Call wants your tiny treats, or small treats, whatever.  Take a look…

not ground

My chicken stock has been a little off lately.  I make chicken stock at least once a week, and I thought I was doing everything the same, but all the dishes I make with stock of been a little off as well.  The chicken soup & casseroles & pasta dishes were all missing something.  Peppercorns.  I ran out of peppercorns and used fresh ground pepper in their place.  It amazes me that such a small thing can make such a big difference.  This next show wants your small things to make a big difference in their next exhibit.  Take a look…
