ODILON was born in Paris and felt heavily influenced by classical music, ballet dancing and the Masters of painting. At the age of 16, Odilon suffered from anorexia. At 17 she began using a camera to make self portraits. It was simply a way to give her a glimpse inside herself to make sense of the pain with which she struggled to understand.

"Taking action is far better than thinking, for me. Photography saved my life."

EGG

If we are what we eat, then my self-portrait would be an egg.  My family of 3 goes through dozens of eggs per week when you take into account the scrambled, poached & fried varieties plus the frittata, quiche, hollandaise, mayonnaise & cookies.  DOZENS.  If you have dozens of self-portraits from which to choose, you’re in good shape for this next Call.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Darkroom Gallery (Essex Junction, VT) for Mirror Mirror. Low entry ($24), a great juror & the subject matter is close at hand…

*Editor’s Note: It is important to let the Darkroom know you found their Call on artandartdeadlines.com. They are friends of AAAD, and I want them to know they have our support…

NARCISSISTICALLY
YOURS

I think if I were a fruit (I can hear you laughing… cut it out… I mean the fruit thing literally), I would be a pomegranate.  Red IS my favorite color.  My exterior can be a little tough.  My insides are a little surprising–sometimes sweet, sometimes sour.  How do you see yourself?  Never considered it?  Think about it now because this next call is all about self-portraiture.

Check out this Call for Entries for the Power of Self 2011 from Artist Wanted.  If you love portraiture as much as I do, this is an excellent opportunity.  The entry fee can be as little as $10, and the Grand Prize is a free life for a year.  Take a look…
