CALL for ENTRIES: Flora

Learn more from Don't Take Pictures about the Flora exhibit!EAT me

How many of you have a potted rosemary bush?  Mine is blooming a gorgeous array of little lavender flowers.  Did you know the flowers are edible?  If you love the taste of rosemary but find the texture & taste a little to strong for delicate foods like fish, try using the flowers instead.  They are softer in both mouth feel & potency and even make a beautiful garnish when flash fried.  This next call is looking for flora, and it doesn’t have to be edible.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: CQ No. 49

either / OR

Food substitutions have become second nature to me.  I live with & cook for lots of people with food sensitivities, health concerns & philosophical/ethical food issues.  I have to be able to accommodate those folks without advance warning and without blowing my food budget.  Black beans make great gluten-free brownies; bananas work as egg replacement in many desserts & breads.  Lemon zest can be a fantastic salt alternative, & nutritional yeast is a great stand-in for Parmesan.  It isn’t about faking an ingredient; it is about creatively coming up with an alternative texture or taste.  This next Call is all about the creative.  I like this opportunity.  Is this one for you?

Check out this Call for Entries from Creative Quarterly (print) for Journal Issue No. 49.  Print publications are fewer & fewer; this is one of my faves.  Take a look…

Every prepared food or drink gets its starts somewhere. Some are more illustrious than others. My favorite “go-to” cocktail is the dry martini, the dirtier, the better.  It got its start in San Francisco (or Martinez, the debate rages on).  This Call offers you an opportunity to be a part of the inaugural edition of an art mag that will be neither dry not dirty but certain to be delicious.  Don’t miss this one…

Check out this Call for Entries from Create! Magazine for the Inaugural Issue.  This publication is brought to you by the creators of Fresh Paint Magazine (one of our favorites) so it is sure to be gorgeous.  Take a look…
