Menu planning is great in theory. I do it most weeks only to end up picking out dinner much like throwing a dart at a dart board. I open the frig, find a miscellaneous ingredient like fava beans and base an entire meal on it. It is part laziness and part indecisiveness. My taste buds often object to my meal planning. Hmph. What’s a girl to do? I don’t know either. This next Call involves a dARTboard of its own. Take a look…

Check out the Call for Entries from the Vilcek Foundation for the 3rd Annual dARTboard Digital Art Exhibit on Vilcek.org. There is no entry fee, but the eligibility restrictions are very specific. Pay attention to the details…

CALL for ENTRIES: Silver Eye 14

and gold

I love the crispy, silvery skin of pan-sauteed salmon filets. I’ve always thought of it as one of the healthy excuses for the consumption of my favorite fatty fishes. Turns out the silvery skin contains concentrated amounts of whatever contaminates existed in the water from which they were caught.  Ugh.  Apparently all that glitters is not gold–or silver.  This next Call is definitely an exception to the all-that-glitters rule.  Don’t miss it…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Silver Eye Center for Photography (Pittsburgh, PA) for the Fellowship 14 International Photography Competition. The entry fee is a little lower than last year, and the opportunity is still spectacular. Take a look…
