If you are an apartment or city dweller, it is exciting to trip across another fruit or veg that can grown in a container.  A friend from Atlanta recently sent me pics of the grapevine she is growing in a container on her balcony.  Potted grapes, seriously.  The grapes aren’t miniature; it can just be grown a miniature scale.  She claims it is going to produce fruit in its first year too!  This next Call wants your miniatures — a maximum of 9 square inches.  Printmaking shows aren’t that commons, so don’t miss this opportunity…

CALL for ENTRIES: Expo 36

Learn more about Expo 36 from the b.j. spoke gallery!fast FARE

The freezer saves dinner about two days a week in my house.  We purposefully cook more portions than we can eat and save the leftovers.  It started out as a way to send lunch with my kiddo for school, but it has become a dinner rescue regularly.  When you get busy and have forgotten to plan for dinner and live nearly a half hour from the closest grocery or restaurant, you’re grateful for frozen leftovers.  This next Call is not a leftover or frozen, but I did neglect to plan the publication more than a few days out from the deadline.  Sorry about that…

ARTIST TO LOVE: Amantha Tsaros

Peek-a-Boo, I See You

Say “Hello” to our newest Artist to Love, Amantha Tsaros!

Amantha Tsaros
Monotype & Acrylic Painting
Acrylic Painting by Amantha Tsaros
Tarre
Monotype
We carry unseen struggles. TSAROS gives form to the internal life in paint. Bringing emotional and spiritual states to light are more important to me than depicting any physical likeness.

Her current series, Bigger Spirits/Square Souls, features organic forms that dance, float or slowly ebb with life. Through paint and monotype, the shapes and marks in the images recall spirits; forces that carry us through our days or challenge us mightily.

Missouri makes me think of German sausage.  Did you know that Ozark Mountain country (partially located in southern Missouri) was widely settled by Germans that brought their own culinary traditions?  To this day,  Hermann’s Wurstfest celebrates this culinary transplant every year.  You know the saying, “you made your bed, now lie in it?”  I prefer the German version: “Die Wurst nach dem Manne braten” — every man fries his own sausage.  Check out this Call for Entries from Missouri…
