CALL for ENTRIES: Art Biologic 2014

Enter the $5 Art Contest today!here a CHICKEN
there a GOAT

As I search for land for the straw bale house that my family intends to build, critters have become an issue. I am thrilled by the prospects of having chickens for eggs & goats for milk, but am I really dedicated to the biology of it all?  Do I really want to be married to the drama of a chicken coop and all the possible predators?  Do I really want to give up spontaneous long weekends due to a milking schedule?  It may BE all natural, but it doesn’t necessarily COME NATURALLY.  This next call wants your take on the art of biology, but it needn’t be all chickens and goats. Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from SlowArt Productions with Art Biologic. The entry fee is reasonable at $35. There are no media restrictions, and the awards include both an exhibit at the Limner Gallery as well as an opportunity to have your work in the nationally-distributed art magazine, Direct Art. CALL for ENTRIES: Neoteric Abstract

Enter the $5 Art Contest today!PO-TAY-TOH
pa-tah-to

What do you want for dinner?  I hate saying AND hearing this phrase because it is immediately followed by the shuffling of feet and avoidance of eye contact in the attempt to draw out the silence until my husband breaks the silence and makes the decision.  It isn’t that I don’t want to think about it; clearly I think about food ALOT.  However, I find it difficult to translate the abstract notion of what I want for dinner into the concrete dish that would be.  Getting from idea that I want comfort food to identifying that as potato soup with freshly grated Romano is, well, complicated.  I wonder if abstract painters have this same dilemma.  If YOUR work is abstract, check out this next Call…

or CHEESE?

I will emerge from the melted cheese eventually.  Yes, I realize I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks.  You’ll just have to forgive me.  I’ve been dealing with some pretty serious health challenges and complications from surgery.  I AM OKAY; I promise.  I’ve just been feeling sorry for myself and haven’t been capable of spreading the same generous helpings of optimism for which I am known.  I’ve been drowning in the melted cheese of recovery: macaroni ‘n’ cheese, grilled cheese, cheese enchiladas, three cheese lasagna–the food of the depressed and/or recovering.  But, I am slowly emerging from the cheesy fog.  I had fresh fish tacos last night (with a minimal amount of monterrey jack).  So, this next Call seemed like the perfect “I’m almost back” post.  Take a look…

The biology of food and nutrition both terrifies and thrills me.  I am scared that non-genetically-modified corn is virtually non-existent.  I can’t just avoid corn; it is IN EVERYTHING.  But I also believe in the healing power of eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong foods.  I love meat and cheese, but I also know the benefits, first hand, of lowering or eliminating them in your diet (watch the movie Forks over Knives if you’re interested).  This next call wants your take on the art of biology–not necessarily related to food, of course.  Take a look…
