PLEASE

With portion sizes growing to gargantuan extremes, I find myself more and more attracted to small plates.  I appreciate variety over quantity.  I have come to expect more creativity and taste from a tasting portion.  I like the attention to detail–from flavor to plating.  This next Call wants your best small work too.  This one is worth a look.

Check out this Call for Entries form Mighty Tieton (Tieton, WA) for the 10 x 10 x 10 x Tieton exhibit, a small works show. This is open internationally, and the fully-illustrated, handbound, hardcover catalogue is a great perk!  Take a look…

I hear the words, “the food landscape is changing” with ridiculous frequency amongst my foodie friends.  I want to believe it is just that sunny optimism that I seek out in others, not naivete, that makes them spout this feel-good mantra.  I believe in locally-sourced, sustainably-farmed, whole foods.  And given an affordable option, I believe most people would agree.  But, have you seen/heard the commercial wherein MONSANTO says they want you to “be a part of the conversation”?  You know, the company that brought you Agent Orange, PCBs, aspartame, bovine growth hormone.  Be afraid of THAT landscape.  This next Landscape, however, is of a delightful variety–to be LOVED.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Art-Competition.net for Landscapes.  Enter for only $20.  Plus, the marketing that might really be useful.  You know you have landscape work (by some interpretation)

gardens in bloom

I pursued the holy grail of dining in the Holy City recently.  My meal began on the porch of a grand Southern home in historic Charleston, SC overlooking a garden of heirloom blooms cultivated on the property.  My meal began with a hand-propagated, rare tomato varietal and a gorgeous regional wine fermented from heirloom grapes.  Even blind folded, I couldn’t have expected to be anywhere other than one of the sparkling jewel cities of the culinary culture to be experienced only in the South.  The sense of place amplifies the food experience just as the sense of place in this one-of-a-kind Southern gallery exalts every work found within.  Claim your spot now…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art (Augusta, GA) for A Sense of Place. $37 entry, media-inclusive & a beautiful, historic venue!
