BOUQUET

Are you eating flowers?  I do occasionally, but only when I can buy them directly from the grower or grow them myself due to pesticides.  One of my favorite edible blooms, second only to zucchini blossoms, may be sweet violets.  I like to make a simple syrup infused with violets then make a subtle glaze for sugar cookies or a vinegar for a salad of bitter greens.  The next time you’re at the Farmer’s Market, consider the flowers edible too. This next Call want YOUR view on all things violet–not just the flowers.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from ArtAscent (online) for Violet. Only $25 to enter. Our Featured Artist Sima Schloss, was featured in a past exhibit.  YOU could be next!

CALL for ENTRIES: Social Justice

Enter the 5 Art Contest today!DREAMS
unsquashed

I don’t really have any major meals to cook during the holidays.  My mother-in-law traditionally makes homemade sloppy joes for Christmas Eve, and my mother cooks a ham and sweet potato cassarole.  Normally I will make a green veggie, but other than that, I’m off the hook.  My mother is 72 years old.  How long do you think the “I’ll bring the zucchini” line is going to work?  Mmmhmm.  I see  massive meal preparation in my near future too–it’s only fair.  But for all the injustices in our creative lives, there is always this next Call…

Check out this Call for Artist Stories: A Social Justice Project.  There is no entry fee, and currently, there is no deadline.  It is just a way for you to share your stories about being a working artist.  Maybe together we can come up with solutions…

A Social Justice Project

“Despite the flippancy with which starving artist mythology is handled, creative people are legitimately at risk for many social issues.  For example, did you know that there are more uninsured artists than there are among people in the general population?

“We creative people need to combine our efforts and creative gifts to develop sustainable art careers. By posting our written works and short videos that detail our stories, we can create awareness about what it really means to live a creative life.” — taken from Artist Stories blog site

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists

MEDIA:  Stories are to be written or via video, but artists can be from any medium

DEADLINE: None, at the moment

NOTIFICATION:  This project is inclusive, not exclusive

ENTRY FEE:  None

anyone?

Could you host a dinner party for 4 weeks in a row?  I’m not sure I could either.  Feeding 6-8 people every day for a month has got to be a challenge.  I think it would have to involve lots of pasta, casseroles and soups.  But, it would be a great excuse to eat comfort food.  This next Call will give you 4 weeks away in a creative atmosphere…and group meals.  Check it out…

Communal cooking requires wine consumption.  Well, it does for ME.  It isn’t that I don’t trust other people to do things “right” in the kitchen; afterall, my husband cooks dinner for our family almost every night.  No, it is really about being IN the kitchen with multiple people, all doing things differently.  I can adapt, it just requires a little wine in the beginning, ha.  This next Call could require some communal cooking.  Look out…
