FLAVOR bombs

I’ve never been a fan of frozen green veggies.  The flavor often reminds me of those little peas in one-dollar pot pies, not entirely natural.  But there is a glaring exception.  Edamame.  I love those little beans.  I like them steamed in their pods, then dipped in a little dumpling sauce (thai chili paste & soy) then sucked from their little green shells.  It isn’t pretty, but I am hooked.

Another perienniel favorite that is all about the color is the BWAC color show.  This is a great space that has grown to become Brooklyn’s largest artist-run organization with over 250 members.  Your dollars have power; spend them wisely.  I love this organization & its mission.

So take a minute and check out this Call for Entries from Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (Brooklyn, NY) for Color. This is a great venue…

FLAVOR bombs

Was there a bumper crop of clementines this year?  Most winters I cling to them as a dose of orange-y sunshine while I wait for the greens to turn green and the tomatoes to lose their gray, hot house pallor.  But, truth-be-told, most clementines I buy seem flavorless starting around the end of February.  But this year we’re into April, and they are still bursting with flavor and adding beautiful color to so many of my meals.  This next Call wants to see your color inspiration.  Take a look…

“In visual perception a color is almost never seen as it really is—as it physically is. This fact makes color the most relative medium in art. In order to use color effectively it is necessary to recognize that color deceives continually. Color is “passive,” “deceptive,” and “unstable,” color behaves, color  ismagic.”   – Joseph Albers, Interaction ofColor

rainbow ‘MATERS

Yellow tomatoes abound at my grocer.  For some reason, my options are limited to uber-sweet cherry tomatoes, rock-hard-Brazilian-hot-house slicing reds or romas, trendy-but-mealy brown and entirely-too-sweet yellow tomatoes.  I like my tomatoes super acidic and red or tart, green and fried.  I know it takes all kinds, but I am looking for just one specific color of the rainbow. This Call is looking for any and all of the colors.  Pick your favorite(s)…

extra fructose?

I had brown tomatoes at dinner tonight, and they were NOT rotten.  They were Kumatoes–a hybrid developed in Spain.  I noted they were a touch sweeter, but less exotic tasting than they appeared.  But, I can’t resist a weird fruit or vegetable, so I tried them as a part of a Caprese Salad.  Pretty, but forgettable. This next exhibit is all about Color as well; just make sure you don’t send pretty-but-forgettable work.  Take a look…
