THEME: “Artists need not be political artists per se — but their work should have a message relevant to our current political climate. We are seeking art that is image and/or language based, and that covers a broad range of issues including but not limited to immigrants’ rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, worker justice, healthcare, racial justice, climate justice, campaign finance reform, political corruption, digital privacy, and the state of our democracy — as well as work that depicts subversive images of Donald Trump and celebrates cultural diversity.” –from creativesinaction.net

Only one of my herb window pots survived the move –cilantro.  More accurately, the pots made it; the plants didn’t survive the neglect and abuse.  Except cilantro which thrived.  So, this month it is cilantro-infused everything.  It is going to take a while to get all my herbs re-started because I’m no botanist like the woman for whom this next Call is names.  Take a look…

MEDIA:  2 & 3 dimensional work

DEADLINE:  July 8, 2017 (Note: This is NOT a postmark deadline.  The mailed entries must be received by the deadline.)

NOTIFICATION: July 18, 2017

ENTRY FEE: $40 for up to 3, $5 ea. add’l

JUROR: Theresa Ganz, artist & assistant professor in visual arts at Brown University, Providence, RI. Ganz will select works based on their own merit and must agree the artist demonstrates skill within the chosen medium. Selections to be made from 8 x 10 prints so it is imperative that quality images be submitted.

AWARDS:  1st Place $1,250, 2nd Place $500, 3rd Place $250 & Oakes Ames Botanical Art Award $200.  A full color catalog containing images of all selected works will be published. All accepted artists will receive 1 free copy.

SALES:  The Friends of Borderland retains no commission on sales.
