One of my favorite holidays looms near — Halloween.  There are lots of treats I only make on holidays, and meringue cookies are always a Halloween request.  Years ago I made meringue “ghost” cookies, which are just meringue cookies with eyes of blueberries, chocolate chips or currants; everyone was hooked.  Now they’re expected, of course. Light, crispy, ghostly sweetness.  Traditions are funny sometimes.  This next Call is looking for your ghosts. Your depiction doesn’t have to be literal, and the media is wide open.  Don’t worry, I am not sending meringues…

THEME:  Chasing Ghosts.  “The term ghost may be interpreted in many ways, not necessarily meant to be a literal elucidation.  Does your process manifest an identity within your work that somehow speaks to the past?  What ghosts or parts of the past leave their mark on your work?  Is a legacy revealed through your work or your process? Is memory a vital vehicle of expression for you?  Do you inadvertently honor or flee from something in your past through your work? CONQUER THE WORLD

I have kept most of my art-related  Rejection Letters over the years.  And along with those letters, I have kept a US map to mark off each show with the goal being to hit every state in the continental US before I make the move to conquer the world…and all of its delicious food, of course.  I’m making progress.  For those of you trying to conquer the Ohio art market, this next call for gallery representation is for you.

The Hudson Gallery has an open call for Portfolio Review.  Do you homework and then submit your work.  No entry fee and guaranteed response regardless of the outcome.  What do you have to lose?

The Hudson Gallery will review portfolios from artists seeking representation. Please take a detailed looked at their web site and/or visit the Gallery prior to sending them your materials. Always do your homework. 

Learn more about the Hudson Gallery!Once you have some understanding of their curatorial interests and feel your work is an appropriate fit, please send images using the guidelines below. 

MEDIA:  They are interested in all media including painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, and the fine crafts.

PORTFOLIOS:  They accept portfolios throughout the year, while occasionally calling for something specific. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your materials. They do not take appointments to review materials or view portfolios during gallery hours. They do not accept email submissions.  All submissions will receive a gallery response.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS: 

10 – 20 images of recent work labeled with your name, title of the piece, date of completion, medium, dimensions, and retail price.

ABOUT THE GALLERY:  Hudson Gallery relocated in 2006 into its current space in a restored building dating back to the mid 1800’s.  Located at street level in the historic downtown section of Sylvania, Ohio, the gallery is widely recognized as one of the regions premier venues for original art.

The gallery remains committed to its original philosophy of exhibiting the work of contemporary artists from this region next those with national appeal across many disciplines and media.   Their hope is to bring gifted new talent into the spotlight as well as showcase those artists demonstrating a lifelong commitment to the art world.
