comfort FOOD

We are approaching the one-year anniversary of the East Tennessee wildfires.  When I posted this Call last year, I lamented my emotional-eating reaction to those wildfires –baked goods.  But, a year later finds me back to a full-time studio practice, 40 lbs lighter & feeding my wildfire PTSD with more vegetables & fewer baked goods.  It’s a better place for me.  How about you?  Where were you a year ago? This next Call feels good & is also a great way to end your year.  Cash prizes too…

Check out this Call for Entries from Knox Arts & Culture Alliance for the 12th Nat’l Juried Exhibition. I have shown here.  I have juried here.  I teach here.  I would love to see your contribution here. Take a look…

Learn more about Knox Photo 2017 from the Arts and Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville!green PROMISE

My papaya won’t ripen; it has been in my kitchen window for a week.  Ahhhh.  I try to eat mostly locally sourced/grown food; however, I am not going to commit myself to a lifetime of no bananas or papaya or mango because I live in the wrong grow zone.  As a result, some of the tropical fruits I buy are vastly under-ripe.  I usually just gross my fingers and hope for the best.  But when you know how fantastic something will the be, the anticipation can be a overwhelming.  This next Call is for a show I anticipate every year, both as a participant and a viewer.  Don’t miss this chance…

CALL for ENTRIES: 2016 Nat’l Juried

http://knoxalliance.com/juried.htmlMUSTARD
fiends

Every last member of my family is a mustard fiend.  There are rarely ever appearances of plain yellow mustard in my house.  Dijon is the mustard of choice for the majority of the family.  And while I have a soft spot for homemade, hot Chinese mustard, I rarely indulge (too lazy to make it).  Brown mustard gets an occasional at bat around here on a whim, but Dijon is our comfort zone, our fall back, our home base if you will.  This next gallery is a little like home base for me.  Please don’t miss this opportunity…

Learn more about Knox Photo 2014 from the Arts and Culture Alliance!don’t be an
EGGHEAD

I’ve been teaching my son to cook.  Well, I’ve been teaching my son to make food–that’s more accurate.  He loves egg salad.  So, we’ve begun with how to boil an egg and the importance of paprika.  You’d be amazed at how often those two, simple factors can ruin egg salad.  Just because they are easy or comfortable doesn’t make them less challenging in their own way.  This next Call is from one of my favorite organizations, and it is easy to enter. But, it is an opportunity not to be overlooked…

Check out this Call for Entries from The Arts & Culture Alliance for Knoxville Photo 2014. This is a great show run by a great organization. I’ve shown here several times, and I was even the juror last year
