CALL for ENTRIES: From Our Perspectives

Learn more from the Oakland Community College Womencenter!HOT STUFF
please

My perspective on what makes for the perfect food shifts every few years.  Occasionally I get stuck in a phase for a while.  I worshiped all things spicy for 5+ years, and now I’ve been stuck on the piquant tang of goat cheese for 10+ years.  Taste buds only live about 10 days, so that gives lots of opportunity for a change of taste.  This next Call wants a female perspective, but not necessarily on food (although it isn’t excepted).  I encourage you to take on some academic shows.  How about this one, ladies?

Check out this Call for Entries from Oakland Community College Womencenter (Bloomfield Hills, MI) for From Our Perspectives: A National Women’s Art Exhibition at the Smith Theatre Gallery.  $25 Entry & $800 Best of Show.  Take a look…

I recently moved into a 2-story rondette house.  In case you are unfamiliar, it a 12 sided house with cathedral ceilings.  Due to the construction method, there are no overhead lights–none.  Cooking by stove light is an adventure.  You CANNOT enter this next Call without dealing with the light issue.  Investigate the idea…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Darkroom Gallery (Essex Junction, VT) for Illumine. The entry fee at Darkroom is always low ($24), and they will provide free matting & framing if you work in their standard sizes. Take a look…

*Editor’s Note: Please make sure to let them know that you found the Call on ArtAndArtDeadlines.com. I have a soft spot for this gallery, and I want them to know they have our support…

Illumine

Light is that which compels a photograph into being: shifting, glowing, luminous, obscure or brilliant.

The medium of photography brazenly defined: How our tools, environs and subjects respond to light.  Sometimes the light plays a more prominent role in a photograph, sometimes as a supporting actor and sometimes as the protagonist itself.

Low light, bright light and every stop in between. Light can be luminous & rich, or a stark spotlight, it can wildly dance, or softly edge darkness and cast shadows. Light can reflect and sparkle or be blinding and disarming. Natural light vs. man-made light sources: sunrises and sunsets, moonlight and neon light!

CALL for ENTRIES: Big Bad Wax

rounds

I’ve been on a cheese kick lately.  But, I find myself specifically craving red-waxed cheddar. I know the artificially-colored wax coating isn’t supposed to influence flavor, but I love the texture of the cheddar found just under the surface of the wax.  AND, I like dipped cheeses better than brushed cheeses.  Something about those bright red rounds reminds me of the comfort of childhood before cholesterol and added pounds influenced my food choices.  This next Call wants your wax inspirations.  Check it out…

Check out this Call for Entries from Mount Dora Center for the Arts (Mount Dora, FL) for Big Bad Wax, a national juried encaustic exhibition.  These exhibits are harder to find, so be certain not to miss this opportunity…
