CALL for ENTRIES: Issue 11 Incandescent

Learn more about Issue 11 from Incandescent Zine!color me STUFFED

The Thanksgiving sea of brown food has passed.  Luckily, my family forgoes the turkey, dressing, gravy & rolls thereby missing out on a good portion of the brownness of it all. I crave color even in my food.  A star of this year’s menu was the beet & clementine salad.  Beets are plentiful year around due to how well they do in cold storage.  If you are one of those folks that swear they dislike beets, make a point to try them fresh roasted.  (Message me for a recipe.)  In the meantime, here’s a call that also craves color.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Incandescent (printed zine) for Issue Eleven.  I want to challenge you to find a way to work with color film.  Sometimes using your voice to speak a different way can lead to new opportunities.  You can do it…

SPECIAL
DELIVERY

I have always wondered why I have never received a “____ of the Month” gift for a holiday.  Fruit, cheese, beer…you name it, I would love any of them.  Maybe my relatives are concerned about my food obsession?  It’s possible.  But not only do I love most things edible, I have a soft spot for mail.  I may be the only human alive that still has magazine subscriptions…plural.  You can feel this one coming, can’t you?  Mmmhmm…art publication.

It is that time again folks; it is time to remind you that all publicity for your artwork is good publicity.  Check out this Call for Entries from Rural Route 2 Box 281, a bi-monthly art zine dedicated to photo-based contemporary art.  It is available both digitally and in hard copy.

Learn More About RR2 Box 281 online! The title “RR 2 Box 281” comes from the childhood address of the zine’s editor. Through Digital and hard copy dissemination, RR2 seeks to increase the exposure of artists working and living in rural (non-urban) settings, thereby creating a dialog around relationships between contemporary art, regional identity and rurality.

Editor’s Note:  I know, I know.  I can smell the paranoid, suspicious email headed my way about how I shouldn’t promote Calls from newbies.  Bottom line…we all start somewhere.  They are building a blog and finding a few fans on facebook too.

This blog is only a year old.  If everyone had been suspicious, I wouldn’t have a few hundred of you mixed nuts reading these posts everyday.  Then where would we all be (she says with an exaggerated sense of self-importance)?  Have a little faith, folks.  When you expect the best…you very often get it.

ART PUBLICATION: Applied Art Zine

Click Here to Subscribe to this Blog by Email!Proving you exist is an age-old philosophical effort and the frequent stuff of cocktail party debates.  However, it is rarely an artistic endeavor.

“Proof of Myself” is a start-up art zine featuring applied art that aims to address the self-titled debate.

In December of 2009, we featured the artwork of Catherine Roach.  Roach is currently attending The New England Art Institute in Boston for Graphic Design, and approaching her final semester.  She has decided to start an art zine featuring applied art.

PROOF OF MYSELF is a new zine/photobook/art collaborative.

Proof of Myself for me,” says Roach, “means anything that you have done what reflects you. Your identity, your love, your passion, your favorite color, your home, your town, whatever.

“As long as your work reflects something that is you. Something that is a piece of you, something that proves you exist.”

I was walking and talking so fast by Catherine RoachRoach would prefer hand-made pieces.

For instance, if you want to submit a writing piece, make it handwritten and mailed (or scanned).

If you want to submit art, scan pieces that are tangible. Mixed media with some digital aspects are cool too, as long as they have a “hand-made” feel.

Please don’t mail original artwork unless you do not want it returned

The early worm gets gotten by Catherine RoachJust scan and email your artwork to Catherine Roach.

Remember, I always suggest you research your juror, curator, gallery director or editor.  Take a look at Roach’s Featured Artist post from December 2009 to get a better idea of who she is and what might make the cut.
