ARTIST of the DAY: Gehard Demetz

sadness & SILENCE

The loss & violence in Orlando this week is unbearable.  I was once watching an interview with today’s artist in which he was trying to speak to his inspiration, his inner voice.  He said,”I represent this world, this culture.”  I heard this and wondered about the world of which he spoke, this world of children in arresting situations, and hoped his work wasn’t REALLY representative of the world.  I don’t want the world to be that painful, that complicated.  But it is.  I love this work.  I will always love this work.  Today, I wish it didn’t feels quite so real. Today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Gehard Demetz has put a face on our world today.  (continues below)

I rarely drink alcoholic beverages at home.  I have a sort of daily ritual that starts with two carbonated drinks which are followed by unsweetened, decaffeinated, iced black and/or orange tea until bedtime.  It never really occurs to me to deviate from that norm except when we are on stage or out for a special occasion.  Maybe I would be more inspired if I had something creative out of which to drink, like the ones found in this next Call.  It isn’t just about pottery either…

Your mayonnaise is a great judge of character.  No, really, I haven’t lost my mind.  If you’re not vegan, and you hate mayonnaise, it is probably because you’ve never had anything but the homogenized, bland, store-bought variety.  Real mayonnaise, if fresh, is made of three simple ingredients: egg yolks, oil & acid.  I prefer farm-fresh eggs, olive oil and lemon.  The are hundreds of combinations each with their own quirks and complexities.  Mayo-making is an foodie’s artisan craft, and this next Call is a celebration of fine craft from basketry to furniture and everything in between.  Take a look…

Mixed Media		CITRIN is an avant garde artist whose artistic expression takes fantastic shape through her diverse oil and watercolor paintings, bronze sculptures, found object collages and mixed media assemblages. Her contemporary paintings and sculptures range from abstract to realistic to impressionistic - all visionary interpretations from her imaginative soul. Citrin maintains an extensive exhibition schedule in juried, non-juried, and invitational arts venues.
