CALL for ENTRIES: WTP Painting

Learn more about the Painting Competition from Woven Tale Press!BREATHE deeply

I often claim to be a plein air diner.  Food just tastes better when eaten outside. I’ll take a picnic or patio dinner over a upscale restaurant any day.  My mother swears fruit tastes even better eaten right in the field, dirt & all.  This next Call doesn’t require that you paint, or eat, plein air; however, the winner’s retreat offers both of those opportunities.  If you’ve been hesitant to submit to publication calls, investigate this one…

Check out this Open Call for Entries from The Woven Tale Press (print publication) for Art Competition: Painting.  Regular readers know that I believe art publication is worth the effort and can be a reward of its own.  But THIS publication also comes with artist’s retreat in the Hamptons.  Take a look…

ARTIST of the DAY: Kathleen M. Robison

backward & FORWARD

Gaining perspective requires your finding your place in the present day by looking BOTH backward toward the path traveled (or not) & forward to embrace possibilities.  When I came across this pair of portraits by today’s AotD, I found this idea beautifully illuminated. Ironically, Robison is primarily a plein air painter, which cannot be more rooted in the present.  The work of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Kathleen M. Robison, offers a beautiful glimpse of Summer contemplation.  (continues below).

"White Scarf" & "Blue Sun Dress" (plein air oil painting) by Kathleen M. Robison
“White Scarf” & “Blue Sun Dress” (plein air oil painting) by Kathleen M. Robison

“Painted this oil painting of a girl who was looking away into the blue sky. The bright light on the scarf drew me in, so did the movement of her hair. Her attitude that day reminded me of the ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’.” — Kathleen M. Robison

I am the poster child for a handful of food trends.  In fact, I often hang on to them long after they go out of fashion.  I am still annoyingly addicted to sriracha.  It shows in up in nearly all my mayo, many sauces, and I’ll dip anything in it.  You can be a poster child, or adult, for this next Call.  Here’s a chance to freely speak your mind.  Investigate…

CALL for ENTRIES: Emerging Plein Air

Enter the $5 Art Contest today!CUTS of cold

It isn’t even officially winter yet, and I am already whining about wanting to picnic.   I think it is the prevalence of cold cuts at holiday parties that does this to me.  That, or my dogged determination to not be happy in whichever food season I find myself.  But, I prefer to think it is the subliminal messaging from cold cuts.  Four months and counting until I can eat in the open air again.  Speaking of open air, check out this next Call.  This is a new category of Call for AAAD.  Show them some picnic-style love…
