CALL for ENTRIES: 2018 Encaustic

WAXING the rounds

To wax or not to wax the cheese.  I have a friend with cows that makes cheese regularly.  Her production is up to more than what they can eat, and her refrigerator can’t hold any more. She’s trying to not increase her electric suck by not buying an additional refrigerator.  So, she’s learning to wax her cheese for storage in her cold cellar.  This next show is for those that already know how to wax (not cheese), or learning.  Take a look at this opportunity…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Morpho Gallery (Chicago, IL) for their 7th Annual 2018 Encaustic exhibit.  $25 Entry & 20% commission.  Have you waxed?

CALL for ENTRIES: Sextet III

Learn more about the Sextet III exhibit at the Limner Gallery!

a DOZEN delights

I’ve had many a conversation about why some foods, eggs & bread & oysters for example, come in dozens.  I’ve heard that it is easier to divide because it has more factors (1, 2, 3, 4 & 6).  I’ve heard that a bakers dozen (13) exists merely so delivery men don’t eat part of the order making the baker look like a cheat.  I’ve heard it originated in the fact that there were 12 pennies in a shilling which made sales without change making easier.  None of these are verifiable though. Did you know there is even a Dozenal Society that advocates for 12 as our base number instead of 10?  While you contemplate the math of it all, this next Call will only choose a half dozen artists to participate in this show.  Are you one of six?

Check out this Call for Entries from Slow Art Productions for Sextet III at the Limner Gallery (Hudson, NY). $36 entry open to all media and all artists.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: Spectrum Gestalt 5

Learn more about Spectrum Gestalt 5 from the bG Gallery in Santa Monica! the full SPECTRUM

I dream of rainbow colored foods.  No doubt you’ve read more than one of my artificial food coloring rants. And, for the record, I don’t understand why one would color food for the sake of coloring them.  But the good news is, we are finding our way back to natural pigments made from tumeric, beet root & blueberries.  One day, I’ll get to eat rainbow cupcakes with full abandon & no fear.  This next Call wants the entire rainbow, but you’re only responsible for ONE of the colors.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: Wax Poetic

Learn more about the Wax Poetic Call for Entries from Fabulon!with a CHERRY on top

I have an aunt that still seals jelly with wax instead of heat sealing them with a lid & ring.  She swears it is easier and says her cherry jelly never lasts more than 2 months anyway.  I don’t understand how it is any easier since she has to melt the ways and spoon it over the top of the each jar of jelly. But, I love her cherry jelly, so I just keep my mouth shut about the wax.  This next Call is all about the wax.  Is this Call for you?

Learn more about the 2017 Contemporary Encaustic exhibit from the Royal Contemporary Gallery! your BEESwax

For all of my complaining about added wax in/on food, it does have its place.  You know I don’t need my fruit and veggies to be pretty, but a lightly waxed apple from my local orchard will keep in cold storage or root cellar for months on end.  And have you spied the new beeswax food wrap?  It is meant as a replacement for plastic wrap.  You can even make your own.  Cool.  This next Call is also an excellent use of wax.  Take a look…
