Food matters to me, inspires me.  I believe that what we eat informs our health & happiness.  I’m not talking about counting calories or carbs.  I am concerned with whole foods, grown locally with minimal processing.  Real food.  I am always delighted to see food inspiring others.  Chocolate has inspired art, including a sort of painting, in the the pastry arts for years, but did you know there are chocolate portrait painters?  No joke.  This next call is looking for work done through a painterly process, but I’m guessing they aren’t expecting chocolate.  Investigate for yourself…

ELIGIBILITY:   Open to artists residing in U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada & Mexico

MEDIA:  Open to all 2-D work created through any painting media 

DEADLINE:  September 1, 2016

NOTIFICATION:  September 21, 2016

ENTRY FEE:  $35 for up to 2 ($20 for MFA members) & $5 ea. add’l

JUROR:  Joey P. Mánlapaz is a painter & Associate Faculty at the Corcoran College of Art & Design since 1992, and is a Lecturer at Georgetown University.  She also teaches painting at The Art League School in Alexandria, VA.  She exhibits extensively in the U.S. and is recognized for her unique form of painterly photorealism in the styles of NY artists Tom Blackwell and Richard Estes and sensibilities of Edward Hopper. The D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities awarded Mánlapaz a 2014 Artist Fellowship for artistic merit.

AWARDS:  Cash awards total $1000. Award contributors & recipients will be listed in the exhibition catalog.

SALES: The MFA will retain 30% commission from sales
