Bugs, both lady & stink, invade my house every winter.  I can only assume their numbers increase wildly due to the need to seek warmth.  The ladybugs that everyone adores are different that the erratic, mean-spirited beetle variety that haunts the windows & lampshades in my home.  And the stinkbugs, oh my.  Did you know that National Geographic wrote an article a few years ago suggesting that these odoriferous creatures add an apple flavor to sauces?  Thanks, but no. I’ll stick with the orchard original.  This next Call is the only place I want to see swarms. How about you?

“Works that are inspired by insects – creatures that represent 90% of animal life on Earth.  The jury seeks works that find their inspiration in the prolific world of insects, from their form and color, to their mating and eating habits, to their many intriguing survival strategies.  Whether bugs are the fodder for fantastical creations, or a means for artists to engage with the sciences, the jury seeks to create a lush exploration of insects.  –from annmariegarden.org

ELIGIBILITY: All artists working in U.S.

MEDIA: Open to all media

DEADLINE:  March 23, 2016

NOTIFICATION:  April 1, 2016

ENTRY FEE:  $25 for up to 4

JUROR: The exhibit will be juried by a 1-2 member panel; typically, one member of the panel is drawn from the Smithsonian Institution.

AWARDS: Annmarie will present cash awards to outstanding work.  Jurors will review installed works for award selection. Awards are contingent upon sponsors; typically there are three awards of approx. $250 plus an invitation for a solo/group show.

SALES: Annmarie will retain a 40% commission of the listed sale price.
